Access @ TilhanTec: Castor-GRIS

Castor (Ricinus communis L.) is a cross-pollinated diploid (2n=2x=20) species belonging to the family Euphorbiaceae and genus Ricinus. Earlier, the genus Ricinus was divided into several species and subspecies. It is now believed that all these species and subspecies are synonymous to R. communis. India is one of the centres of origin of castor where tremendous natural diversity is widespread in diverse ecosystems across the country. The Castor Germplasm Management Unit (GMU) at ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad has conducted explorations in 22 States and Andaman & Nicobar Islands in India. ICAR-IIOR currently holds 3289 accessions of which 253 were introduced from 37 countries.

TilhanTec: Castor-GRIS  is a system that allows researchers AICRP(Castor), curators, and gene bank managers to access castor germplasm information. Genebank database contains passport details and data on 18 quantitative characters, and 23 morphological characters for each accession. The user can search for data based on source/origin, quantitative characters, morphological characters, or combination. Individual accession details can also be retrieved. The results can also be downloaded as an excel spreadsheet.
